dois anos :: two years

iris - wild child - countryside life

::

Despite being born in the North, our girl is already a "Beirã" (the term use to identify who is from this region). She's more of these granite plateaus than of the turbulent ocean that saw her birth.

I have always heard that great men came out of this region.

As I look at our little girl, walking reckless (and naked ...), the wild paths of our surroundings, I'm happy to see her grow here, where the air is pure, the horizons wide and the soil healthy.

And I hope that growing here makes her strong, genuine, loyal, resilient, fair.

And if one day she leaves And when she leaves, she will have the temper of the "Beirões" and she will be of the size that she wants.

um ano :: one year

íris - a wondrous day
íris - a wondrous day
íris - a wondrous day

- a primeira coisa que fez, mal a pousaram no meu peito - acabadinha de nascer -, foi procurar a maminha. Uma das melhores sensações do mundo;
- sempre dormiu bem. Nunca tivemos (até agora) uma noite em branco. Mas lá que luta contra o sono, quando este está a chegar, lá isso luta;
- desde os 5 meses que faz caminhadas (trekking), bem aconchegada na sua mochila ergonómica;
- não é uma bebé de sorriso fácil. Habitualmente, quem não a conhece acha-a séria. Mas quando sorri... E quando ri à gargalhada...;
- neste seu primeiro ano, nunca esteve doente (obrigada, obrigada, obrigada);
- nunca experimentou um biberão. Nunca usou chupeta;
- não gosta que lhe dêem beijos, mas adora abraços;
- e por falar em beijos, já dá beijinhos, mas só ao pai;
- gosta muito de folhear (os livros dela, os dos outros, revistas, ...);
- a palavra que mais usam para a descrever, quando a vêem, é "bonequinha" ("vá lá, sempre é melhor que princesa..." - penso eu - "É???...");
- gosta de Mozart;
- tem um fascínio enorme pelo aspirador. E pelo berbequim...

One year. 365 days of Iris. 12 months full of discoveries, dazzle and too much, much love. Love for this sweet and deep-looking girl. Love for our new way of being a family. Love for the wonderful father who - he too - was born a year ago.

Without poetry to describe so much love, I leave you 12 facts about this baby girl who took over our heart:

- the first thing she did, as soon as they laid her in my chest - immediately after birth - was to look for my breast. One of the best sensations in the world;
- she always slept well. We've never had (until now) a blank night. But does she fight against sleep, when it's coming? Oh, yes, she does;
- she does trekking since she was 5 months , well tucked in her baby carrier;
- she isn't an "easy smile" baby. Usually, those who don't know her think that she's serious. But when she smiles... And when she laughs...;
- in this first year, she was never sick (thank you, thank you, thank you);
- she never tried a baby bottle. She never used a pacifier;
- she doesn't like being kissed, but she loves hugs;
- and speaking of kisses, she kisses, but only her father;
- she likes to leaf (her books, those of others, magazines, ...);
- the expression people use the most to describe her, when they see her, is "little doll" (I think: "well, it's always better than princess... Is it???...");
- she likes Mozart;
- she has a huge fascination for the vacuum cleaner. And for the drill...

ema magalhães - a wondrous day

9 meses. 39 semanas.

9 months. 39 weeks. The time that I brought her in me, while she was preparing for the world, is still more than the time she has on this planet... But with each passing day she is more of herself, finding her individuality and independence in each discovery.

Just over a year ago we found our little piece of heaven. And on that day, as the sun went down, we had a glimpse of a bubbly girl, full of life, running down the field that stretched ahead us.

21 days ago that girl was born, the girl who suddenly appeared in our dreams and now flooded our hearts and revolutionized our lives.

Welcome, my little one. We will do everything possible and impossible to make this world a better place for you.

41 semanas

40+5

In fact it’s only tomorrow that I’ll complete 41 weeks of pregnancy, but everything suggests that I’ll get there.

It's so rare - nowadays – that pregnancies last more then 38 weeks, that most people forget that it's perfectly normal move from 40 and - in some cases - even 41 weeks. Especially when it’s the first time. Thus, family and friends around me can't hide their anxiety (and in some cases even perplexity) for the "delay"...

But I'm in a quiet oasis. From the beginning I had the intuition that I would have a long gestation. I had - and have - confidence in my body and in my baby and I respect her time to be born. We did everything we could to ensure that - when the time comes - we have the labour we want, which makes me feel peaceful. Of course, there’s always a chance of unforeseen events, but that's life, isn't it?

So far I had 10 calm months, despite much activity and changes in our lives. I enjoyed every change in my body, every sign of life of our baby, the strength and beauty of nature operating on me, in an ancestral process.

And I say, half jokingly, that my body was made to be "pregnant"... Except for the heat ( I was never a fan of it), which has been taking me down in these recent weeks, I had a wonderful pregnancy, without the usual discomforts: zero nausea, no sciatica crisis, one or two episodes of heartburn (but deserved, because I abused). Of course - lately - drinking water, or any other liquid, is synonymous of a (almost) immediately visit to the bathroom; and getting up is an exercise with some complexity... But I look to these drawbacks with willingness and good mood.

Ah! And I miss sleep on my belly, yes I do. But I have the feeling that in a few days I'll just miss sleeping time...

9 meses :: 9 months

Quero pedir desculpa a todas as mães, tias, avós, madrinhas, ...

::

I want to apologize to all mothers, aunts, grandmothers, godmothers, ... (seems to be a female attribute) that ever showed me pictures of their children, nephews, grandchildren, godchildren, ... Whether it was the ones in the wallet, the albums you had at home or the ones that now we can just as easily carry on the phone, tablet or similar.

Sorry because, at some point, I have thought that you were overreacting: "No one needs to see so many pictures of the same baby, no matter how cute he is."

I was wrong. So wrong. Now I understand you completely. I want to photograph and show to everyone (everyone) every grimace, every smile, every achievement, ... of the most beautiful baby in the world. Who happens to be my nephew...

sou tia :: i'm an aunt

::

I'm an aunt for the first time so probably I'll be a little bit partial ... Gonçalo is the most beautiful baby I've ever seen. Even more beautiful than his father, who was born when I was 11 and was the first baby to fill my heart. Even more beautiful than my goddaughter - who is now a beautiful 2 years old girl with big eyes and golden curls - by whom I fell in love since she was born.

The second I saw him, just born, he snatched my heart. I knew that I will love him till the end of my days, defend him against everything and everyone and, of course, fill him with caress, which is one of my jobs as an aunt, right? In fact, this child will have to have a great personality to withstand so much pampering. He's the first of everything: son, grandson, nephew, ... You see...

And if each day I like more and more to photograph people (you can read about this "problem" of mine here), I have completely surrendered to photographing the little ones awhile ago (as the amount of pictures I have of my goddaughter can attest...). So it wasn't a surprise for me that I have loved every minute of the session I did with my nephew when he was 10 days. The fact he's so cute also helps. Have I already told you that he's the most beautiful baby in the world?...
